Heute hat Mannheims Oberbürgermeister Christian Specht Vertreter der Delegationen des 30. Albert Schweitzer Turnieres (AST, 30. März – 06. April 2024 in Mannheim und Viernheim) im Rathaus Mannheim empfangen. Außerdem waren zahlreiche Ehrengäste, u.a. Viernheims Bürgermeister Matthias Baaß, DBB-Präsident Ingo Weiss und DBB-Vizepräsident Stefan Raid vor Ort.

Specht begrüßte die Gäste und meinte: „Es ist eine große Ehre, Sie alle hier im Mannheimer Rathaus zu Gast zu haben. An den vergangenen drei Tagen haben wir schon viele interessante Spiele gesehen. Das Albert Schweitzer Turnier stelt nach wie vor eine großartige Gelegenheit für die jungen Spieler dar, sich den Scouts und der ganzen Welt zu präsentieren.“ Das AST habe für Mannheim eine ganz besondere Bedeutung, was nicht zuletzt die Förderung der Stadt in Höhe von 85.000 Euro unterstreiche. Specht sprach von ener tollen Atmosphäre in den beiden Hallen und machte noch etwas Werbung für die Stadt Mannheim und für die gesamte Region Rhein-Neckar.

Auch Weiss richtete einige Worte an die Anwesenden: „Es ist eine Freude wieder hier zu sein. Besonders möchte ich die beiden U17-Teams aus der Türkei und aus Deutschland ansprechen, die sich hier auf die U17-Weltmeisterschaft 2024 in Istanbul vorbereiten. Einige unserer Weltmeister haben auch beim AST gespielt. Von hier aus nahmen ihre Karrieren ihren Lauf. Ich bedanke mich für die großzügige Unterstützung der beiden Städte Mannheim und Viernheim.“

Gegenseitig wurden Geschenke und viele kleine Anekdoten ausgetauscht. U18-Delegationsleiter und DBB-Vizepräsident Werner Lechner und U17-Assistant Coach Heimo Förster überreichten OB Specht und BM Baaß jeweils unterschriebene Trikots und Bälle. Schließlich kam auch das leibliche Wohl nicht zu kurz.

Today, Mannheim’s Lord Mayor Christian Specht received representatives of the delegations of the 30th Albert Schweitzer Tournament (AST, March 30 – April 6, 2024 in Mannheim and Viernheim) at Mannheim City Hall. Numerous guests of honor were also present, including Viernheim’s mayor Matthias Baaß and DBB president Ingo Weiss.

Specht welcomed the guests and said: „It is a great honor to have you all as guests here in Mannheim City Hall. We have already seen many interesting games over the past three days. The Albert Schweitzer Tournament continues to be a great opportunity for the young players to present themselves to the scouts and to the whole world.“ The AST has a very special significance for Mannheim, which is underlined not least by the city’s sponsorship of 85,000 euros. Specht spoke of the great atmosphere in the two arenas and did some more advertising for the city of Mannheim and the entire Rhine-Neckar region.

Weiss also addressed a few words to those present: „It’s a pleasure to be here again. I would particularly like to address the two U17 teams from Turkey and Germany, who are preparing here for the 2024 U17 World Championships in Istanbul. Some of our world champions have also played at the AST. Their careers took off from here. I would like to thank the two cities of Mannheim and Viernheim for their generous support.“

Gifts and many little anecdotes were exchanged. U18 delegation leader and DBB vice president Werner Lechner and U17 Assistant Coach Heimo Förster presented Lord Mayor Specht and Mayor Baaß with signed jerseys and balls.
