Es gibt einen echten „Klassiker“ beim Albert Schweitzer Turnier in Mannheim und Viernheim, und das ist die Partie zwischen Deutschlands U18-Jungen und der Türkei am Ostermontag-Abend. Heute war es wieder so weit. Die deutsche Mannschaft von Bundestrainer Alan Ibrahimagic hatte dieses Mal keine große Mühe mit dem Gegner und gewann mit 89:56 (27:16, 23:10, 18:21, 21:9). Nach dem morgigen Ruhetag geht es für die DBB U18 am Mittwoch, 03. April 2024, mit dem Spiel gegen das ebenfalls ungeschlagene Australien weiter (Spielplan).

Großartige Atmosphäre

Die GBG Halle in Mannheim präsentierte ihr bestes Gesicht: sehr gut gefüllt, zwei lautstarke Fanlager … einfach eine großartige Atmosphäre. Und auch auf dem Court ging es munter los, Hannes Steinbach verwandelte einen Offensivrebound zum 8:4 (4.), Jack Kayil und Eric Reibe legten per Dreier zum 14:6 nach (5.). Deutschland dominierte auch bei den Rebounds und machte es den Türken sehr schwer (20:10, 8.). Beim 22:10 nahm die Türkei die erste Auszeit (9.). Die Türken wehrten sich in Person von Kaan Onat, der bereits neun Punkte auf seinem Konto hatte (24:13). Ein fulminantes Auftaktviertel ging mit dem 27:16 für Deutschland zuende.

Das DBB-Team machte mit starken Aktionen weiter und kontrollierte die Partie (32:16, 12.). Auf starker Defensive aufbauend gelangen immer wieder schnelle und konzentriert vorgetragene Offense-Sequenzen. Das Publikum durfte zufrieden sein und zeigte das auch. Die Türken waren aber keinesfalls raus aus dem Spiel und kamen an der Freiwurflinie zum 35:21 (14.). Ein paar Minuten lang waren die Würfe der DBB-Youngster nicht mehr so gut gefallen, aber das änderte nichts an der deutlichen Führung. Roy Krupnikas netzte von weit draußen zum 39:21 (15.), wieder Auszeit Türkei. Immer hatten die Deutschen die passende Antwort auf türkische Punkte, die in dieser Phase aber eher Mangelware blieben (44:23, 17.). Onat zeigte seine individuelle Klasse, erhielt aber zu wenig Unterstützung (44:26, 19.). Zur Pause steuerte das DBB-Team ganz klar dem dritten Erfolg beim diesjährigen AST entgegen (50:26).

Kurze „Ruhephase“

Es dauerte nach dem Seitenwechsel ein bisschen, bis auch die zweite Hälfte Fahrt aufnahm. Die Türkei kam noch einmal mit vollem körperlichen Einsatz aus der Kabine und verkürzte (51:31, 23.). Reibe netzte einen Dreier (57:34, 25.), es sah nicht nach einem Comeback der Türken aus. Zumal jetzt die Dreier der Deutschen wieder besser fielen (Kayil, 60:36, 26.). Reibe stopfte den Ball zum 64:38 durch die türkische Reuse, doch der Gegner attackierte weiter und hatte durchaus sehenswerte Aktionen zu bieten (64:43, 28.). Das Spiel war nach drei Vierteln aber entschieden (68:47).

Beide Teams ließen in nichts nach, was Intensität und Kampfgeist angeht. Offenbar waren sie auch angetan von der großen Kulisse (2.318 Zuschauer). Es hieß 70:52 nach einem türkischen Dreier (32.). Deutschland zeigte insgesamt aber eine sehr reife Vorstellung, nicht ohne sich für die kommenden Spiele noch Platz nach oben zu lassen (77:54, Steinbach „and one“, 35.). Die Zuschauer belohnten den guten Auftritt der Deutschen mit viel Applaus.

There is a real „classic“ at the Albert Schweitzer Tournament in Mannheim and Viernheim, and that is the match between Germany’s U18 boys and Turkey on Easter Monday evening. Today it was that time again. The German team of national coach Alan Ibrahimagic did not have much trouble with their opponents this time and won 89:56 (27:16, 23:10, 18:21, 21:9). After tomorrow’s rest day, the DBB U18s will continue on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, with the game against unbeaten Australia (schedule).

Great atmosphere

The DBB team continued with strong actions and controlled the game (32:16, 12.). Building on strong defending, they repeatedly produced quick and concentrated attacking sequences. The crowd could be satisfied and showed it. However, the Turks were by no means out of the game and made it 35:21 at the free throw line (14.). The DBB youngsters‘ shots were not as good for a few minutes, but that did not change the clear lead. Roy Krupnikas netted from long range to make it 39:21 (15.) and Turkey called timeout again. The Germans always had the right answer to Turkey’s points, which were in short supply in this phase (44:23, 17.). Onat showed his individual class, but did not receive enough support (44:26, 19.). At the break, the DBB team was clearly heading for its third win at this year’s AST (50:26).

Short „quiet phase“

It took a little while after the break for the second half to pick up pace. Turkey once again came out of the locker room with full physical commitment and reduced the deficit (51:31, 23.). Reibe drained a three (57:34, 25.) and it did not look like the Turks would stage a comeback. Especially since the Germans‘ threes were now falling better again (Kayil, 60:36, 26.). Reibe stuffed the ball through the Turkish hoop to make it 64:38, but the opposing side continued to attack and had some action worth seeing (64:43, 28.). However, the game was decided after three quarters (68:47).

Neither team let up in terms of intensity and fighting spirit. They were obviously also impressed by the large crowd (2,318 spectators). The score was 70:52 after a Turkish three-pointer (32.). However, Germany produced a very mature performance overall, not without leaving room for improvement in the coming games (77:54, Steinbach „and one“, 35.). The crowd rewarded the Germans‘ good performance with plenty of applause.
