Das Albert Schweitzer Turnier (AST) 2020, das vom 11.-18. April 2020 in Mannheim und Viernheim geplant war, fällt in diesem Jahr aufgrund der aktuellen Situation um das Corona-Virus (COVID-19) aus. Das renommierte und traditionsreiche Turnier für U18-Nationalmannschaften hätte zum 30. Mal stattgefunden.

Mit der Absage hält sich der Deutsche Basketball Bund an die jüngst erlassenen behördlichen Anweisungen und Verbote der Bundesländer Baden-Württemberg und Hessen sowie der beiden Austragungsorte Mannheim und Viernheim. „Wir haben vollstes Verständnis für die Entscheidungen der beiden Bundesländer und Städte. Nichts anderes als die Gesundheit und der Schutz der Bürgerinnen und Bürger stehen momentan im Vordergrund. Da zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt eine Verbesserung der aktuellen Lage nicht absehbar ist, war leider keine andere Entscheidung möglich“, erklärt Ingo Weiss, DBB-Präsident.

Auch die Rahmenveranstaltungen rund um das Albert Schweitzer Turnier wie die internationale Coach Clinic, das Minifestival, das FIBA Referee Training Camp und das Burkhard-Wildermuth-Camp müssen abgesagt werden.

Bereits gekaufte Tickets für das AST 2020 können natürlich zurückgegeben werden. Der Kaufpreis inklusive Gebühren (abzüglich etwaiger Versandkosten) wird erstattet. „Wir wissen derzeit noch nicht, ob das 30. Albert Schweitzer Turnier nachgeholt werden kann oder ob wir im Jahr 2022 wieder in den normalen AST-Rhythmus eintreten. Dies werden wir mit allen Beteiligten in Ruhe beraten und zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt bekannt gegeben“, sagt Stefan Raid, DBB-Vizepräsident für Jugend und Schule.

The Albert Schweitzer Tournament (AST) 2020, which was planned from 11th to 18th April 2020 in Mannheim and Viernheim is canceled this year due to the current situation around the corona virus (COVID-19). With the rejection, the German Basketball Federation adheres to the recently issued official instructions and bans issued by the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Hessen and the two host cities of Mannheim and Viernheim. “We have complete understanding of the decisions made by the two federal states and cities. The side events around the Albert Schweitzer Tournament such as the international coach clinic, the mini festival, the FIBA Referee Training Camp and the Burkhard-Wildermuth-Camp have to be canceled as well.

Tickets for AST 2020 that have already been purchased can of course be returned. The purchase price including fees (minus any shipping costs) will be reimbursed. Please note that tickets can only be returned and reimbursed where they were bought. Anyone who has ordered tickets online or at the ticket hotline will be contacted directly with information on reverse processing. Please note that the refund can take up to 30 days.

„We currently do not know whether the 30th Albert Schweitzer tournament can be made up for or whether we will return to the normal AST rhythm in 2022. We will discuss this with all those involved without ruffle or excitement and will announce it at a later date”, says Stefan Raid, DBB vice president for Youth and School.
