Noch zwei Tage, dann beginnt das 30. Albert Schweitzer Turnier (AST) für männliche U18-Nationalmannschaften in Mannheim und Viernheim. Dazu fand heute eine weitere Pressekonferenz statt. Zu Gast: die Head Coaches von Deutschland und Australien und je ein Spieler der deutschen U17- und U18-Nationalmannschaft. Hier die einzelnen Stimmen:

Robert McKinlay, Head Coach Australien
„Ich weiß, dass das Albert Schweitzer Turnier eine große Tradition hat. Für uns ist es wichtig, dass wir uns mit großer internationaler Qualität messen können. Deutschland und die anderen starken europäischen Teams werden uns sicher voll fordern. In Australien spricht man sehr gut über das Turnier, australische Nationalmannschaften haben hier ja auch schon gute Erfolge gefeirt. Unser Spieler Rocco Zikarksy ist 220 cm groß und wird sicher einer der auffälligsten Spieler hier sein.“

„Bislang läuft es richtig gut. Wir sind seit Dienstag komplett, die Stimmung ist sehr gut. Die Jungs kennen sich untereinander sehr gut, für mich als Coach ist dieser Jahrgang neu. Da muss ich jetzt erst einmal ein Gefühl entwickeln. Wir haben nicht viel Zeit, aber viel Qualität im Kader. Es herrscht eine gute Arbeitsatmosphäre, wir arbeiten an einigen wichtigen, aber einfachen Prinzipien. Wir gehen mit dem Anspruch ins Turnier, hier etwas gewinnen zu können.“

„Wir wollen das Turnier in diesem Jahr gewinnen und am Samstag richtig stark anfangen. Dafür werden wir kämpfen. Ich freue mich, gegen richtig gute Teams zu spielen. Sieben Spiele in acht Tagen, das wird hart, aber wir sind bereit und werden auf unsere Körper achten.“

„Auch bei uns ist alles gut im Moment. Klar fehlen uns vier wichtige Spieler und wir sind das jüngste Team. Aber es macht ganz viel Spaß mit den Jungs, die sehr fokussiert und diszipliniert sind. Alle wollen zeigen, dass sie einen Platz im Team verdient haben und möchten unbedingt bei der U17-WM dabei sein.“

„Ich bin sehr positiv. Wir werden kämpfen und alles geben, auch wenn wir ein, zwei Jahre jünger sind als die anderen Teams. Ich komme ja aus Schwetzingen und daher werden meine Familie und einige Freunde in der Halle sein und uns anfeuern. Richtig witzig wäre es, wenn wir im Laufe des Turniers gegen die deutsche U18 spielen könnten. Auch da würden wir natürlich unser Bestes geben.“

People in Australia are talking about the tournament very well, and Australian national teams have already celebrated good successes here. „Things are going really well so far. We’ve been complete since Tuesday and the atmosphere is very good. The boys know each other very well, but for me as a coach this age group is new. I first have to develop a feeling for it. We don’t have much time, but we have a lot of quality in the squad. There is a good working atmosphere and we are working on some important but simple principles. We’re going into the tournament with the ambition of being able to win something here.“

„We want to win the tournament this year and start really strong on Saturday. We will fight for that. I’m looking forward to playing against really good teams. Seven games in eight days will be tough, but we’re ready and will look after our bodies.“

„Everything is good for us at the moment too. Of course we’re missing four important players and we’re the youngest team. But it’s a lot of fun with the boys, who are very focused and disciplined. They all want to show that they deserve a place in the team and are determined to be at the U17 World Cup.“

„I’m very positive. We will fight and give our all, even if we are one or two years younger than the other teams. I’m from Schwetzingen, so my family and some friends will be in the arena to cheer us on. It would be really funny if we could play against the German U18s during the tournament. Of course, we would give our best there too.“
