Das 30. Albert Schweitzer Turnier (AST) für die männlichen U18-Nationalmannschaften aus der ganzen Welt soll im kommenden Jahr in den Basketball-Terminplan zurückkehren und dann vom 16.-23. April 2022 in Mannheim und Viernheim stattfinden. Aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie musste das Traditionsturnier 2020 und 2021 bereits zweimal verschoben werden. Ab 2022 ist geplant, das im Zwei-Jahres-Rhythmus ausgetragene Turnier dann jeweils wieder in den geraden Jahren durchzuführen.

„Es wird langsam mal wieder Zeit, dass wir mit unseren Freunden aus aller Welt zum Albert Schweitzer Turnier in Mannheim und Viernheim zusammenkommen können. Die Vorfreude auf das AST ist nach der notwendigen Verschiebung sowohl in der Region als auch in ganz Basketball-Deutschland riesengroß. Ich freue mich schon jetzt sehr auf die tolle Atmosphäre in der GBG Halle in Mannheim und in der Waldsporthalle in Viernheim“, sagt DBB-Präsident Ingo Weiss.

„Die Stadt Mannheim unterstützt das AST finanziell, stellt drei Sporthallen zur Verfügung und hilft bei der Durchführung mit eigenem Personal aus. Wir richten unseren Blick nun in die Zukunft und sind 2022 bereit, den internationalen Basketball-Nachwuchs in der Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar begrüßen zu dürfen“, zeigt sich Sportbürgermeister Ralf Eisenhauer zuversichtlich.

Die teilnehmenden Nationen, der Spielplan und alle weiteren wichtigen Informationen zum Turnier werden zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt bekannt gegeben.

30th AST with comeback at Easter 2022

The 30th Albert Schweitzer Tournament (AST) for U18 national teams from all over the world will return to the basketball schedule next year and will take place from 16.-23. April 2022 in Mannheim and Viernheim. Originally, the renowned tournament was to be held at Easter in 2020 and 2021, but had to be postponed twice due to the corona pandemic. From 2022, the tournament, which is held every two years, will then be held again in even years.

“It’s about time we got together with our friends from all over the world for the Albert Schweitzer tournament in Mannheim and Viernheim. After the necessary postponement, the anticipation for the AST is huge, both in the region and in all of basketball Germany. I’m already looking forward to the great atmosphere in the GBG Halle in Mannheim and in the Waldsporthalle in Viernheim“, says DBB President Ingo Weiss.

“The city of Mannheim supports the AST financially, provides three sports halls and helps with the implementation with its own staff. We are now looking to the future and in 2022 we are ready to welcome the young international basketball players to the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region in 2022″, said sports mayor Ralf Eisenhauer confidently.

The participating nations, the schedule and all other important information about the tournament will be announced at a later date.
